With Halloween coming around the corner, we would like to share some tips to keep pets safe this season.
- Keep your pets indoors! Dogs and cats are known to bolt out the door when they get spooked by fireworks and loud noises. Cats can brought in the night before and not let out again until November 1st, if they are indoor/outdoor cats.
- Not all pets enjoy dress-up. If your pets seem to not want to wear anything, please don’t make them. Always allow pets to move freely, see and hear if they are wearing a costume.
- Keep your pets in a safe quiet area of the home for the evening. Put on some soft music, their favorite toys, and a comfy bed with water available.
- Watch out for pets if you are out and about with the kids, and be sure if your dog is with you, to have them on a secure leash with reflective gear on so others see them.
- Keep all treats away from your pets. Chocolate and candy with xylitol have become lethal for pets on this occasion. When the kids are going through their candy, be sure to have your pets in another room, so there are no accidents.
- From Pet Sitters International; “Halloween pumpkin or corn displays that are uncooked and potentially moldy can cause problems such as gastrointestinal upset, intestinal problems if eaten in large chunks, or even neurological problems if moldy, according to PetMD, so keep pets away from them.”
